Snack Sticks are BACK- Now in Mild Pepper and Dill Pickle!

The forbidden Valentine's Day farm princess....

There have been some funny posts going around about how all girls want for Valentines Day is a goat, or some chickens, a bouquet of gardening tools, or even some more skulls for their skull collection.

Have you seen them?

The funniest one of these I saw was a case for getting your wife a milk-cow.

The narrator's argument was that, in the long run, getting your wife a milk cow translates into fresh butter, home-made ice-cream, cheese, and fresh home-baked bread, biscuits, and more!

How can a guy go wrong!?

Unfortunately, Chris has made the possibility of having a milk cow, one of his rules... ABSOLUTELY NO MILK COWS!

This is probably because we had the lovely couples-farm-counseling experience of milking several different milk cows together while ranch-sitting for a couple of different friends of ours, pretty early-on in our relationship.

I have milked cows for months at a time without the plethora of issues we have experienced together. So, whether it was those specific cows, or just our dynamite combination of personality traits- I'm not sure.

I have heard from others that milking certain cows can be like working with a royally-spoiled princesses, unless the conditions are just right- on the cow's terms that is.

Chris's past milking experiences have included joys of all sorts, like:

-poop covered tails landing right in his eye

-kicking hooves

-jabbing horns

-the milk "claw" (the machine that hooks up to the udder) being kicked off multiple times

-the milk pail getting full of dust and debris

-spilt milk

-crying

-cussing

-the cow breaking the entire milking chute, taking off, and Chris and me having to run her down to get her back in, to finish milking

Hmmmm... maybe he has some good reasoning behind his rule...

Lucky for us, we have some pretty awesome gals in our community who make milking cows look pretty dang easy, and they are able to procure fresh milk without the headache, the profanities exchanged between husband and wife, and the contamination...

I guess I'll just let the people who are already good at this just keep doing what they are good at.

Maybe Chris and I will even make it through another Valentine's Day, still married!

All joking aside, if you are still hemming and hawwing over what to get your S.O. this Valentine's Day, I have a couple of ideas for you:

Write them a meaningful note with something about them that you appreciate, and leave it somewhere they will find it while they are not near you. Chris left a note like this in my saddle bag for me 4 years ago. I found it while I was out checking calves after a long week of no-sleep during lambing season and it brought tears to my eyes. I still have the note and I still smile when I remember it every once and a while. It was a really special gift, and it doesn't cost much to put one of these together for someone. No store-bought card needed either!

My sister writes me love notes on the meat packages when she helps me process meat for our freezer. I always smile when I pull out these packages of meat from our freezer.

If little heart-felt notes just aren't enough to express your looooove- here are a couple of things we make here on our farm that might help you spread a little more love this week:
