Snack Sticks are BACK- Now in Mild Pepper and Dill Pickle!

Less than One Week for Bulk Shares and Spring Farm Club!

We are coming to the end of my Food Freedom Guide BJ!

My next email will talk about the ultimate ways you can take your food supply into your own hands by growing your own food, but today, I am going to touch on how to build community around local food and holistic health- no matter where you are.

The longer I am alive, the more I realize how important community is.

I have moved around quite a bit over the past decade and the importance of "find your people" is imprinted heavily on my mind.

I don't know where Chris and I would be without our friends. So many people have helped us in so many profound ways... I hope some day we can help others at least half as much as we have been helped.

Sometimes who you meet in life feels left up to chance, but there are definitely some things you can do to set yourself up for more high-quality relationships.

So, how do you meet awesome people in a new place. or even a place you have been for a while, who share your values?

Well here's one idea:

The Weston A Price Foundation Chapter Directory.

This organization changed my life and continues to direct amazing people I get along with and share values with, to my email/phone number so we can connect over real, nutritious local food.

I have met so many awesome people who care about the world, about our community, about their health, and about the future of food through WAPF.

Another one that has connected me to so many Food Freedom Warriors in our state is:

The Wyoming Food Coalition.

There are some really awesome farmers, ranchers, and eaters involved in this organization, and I thoroughly enjoy working with these people to secure Food Freedom in Wyoming, every day. We have a monthly book club where we discuss how to navigate policy, how to hold on to hope for the future, and how to make sure we don't forfeit our freedoms in the food landscape.

The Food Coalition will be having another conference in Casper in November this year, and I can't wait to get together again with these amazing food freedom producers and food freedom lovers, to talk about breaking down barriers to obtaining real food, and keeping options open for consumers and producers.

We were built for community as humans.

I think current trends in our culture are directly attacking our need for community and we need to be careful how we spend our time, and what we direct our attention and energy towards.

Things like social media, and television really prey upon our need for connection and make us feel like we are filling our needs for a short time, but they do not truly nourish us, a lot like the way junk food makes us feel temporarily satiated, but leaves us with a deeper hunger for the nutrients our body actually needs.

Just like we are mindful of the food we put into our bodies, we need to be mindful of the messages and images we are consuming as well.

I have worked really hard to cut down my social media consumption over the past few months, and it has really helped improve my outlook on life.

I have applied every single measure I could find to discourage, interrupt, and chop up browsing and scrolling on my phone. Like turning on an automatic do-not-disturb mode on my phone from 6PM to 6AM, and setting up 15 minute daily limits on apps like Instagram. I also removed Facebook and TikTok from my phone completely.

I have also been prioritizing more in-person, quality interactions like going to church, participating in jam nights with my friends in Centennial, participating in groups I really care about (like the Big Hollow Coop Board here in Laramie), attending wool felting, yarn spinning, and knitting/crocheting events through Cowgirl Yarn and the Laramie Fiber Guild, and going for spring flower walks or drives with my friends who love Wyoming's landscapes as much as I do.

What do you do to connect with people with similar values? I would love to hear your ideas!
